Privacy policy

My Dee Jay Radio is operated by South Media Group Ltd ("we", "us") in Christchurch, New Zealand. This policy explains what information we collect through mydeejayradio.com and how we handle it, in line with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.
What we collect
- Live chat: the nickname you choose and your messages. Chat is public: everyone on the site can read it.
- Song requests: the song, the artist and the name you give (optional). Requests may be announced in the public chat.
- DJ proposals: your name, email, preferred slot and day, genre, show concept, demo link and any message you add.
- Listening: when you play the radio, our streaming server receives your IP address, device and approximate location. We use this only to count listeners and to see listening totals, such as hours listened and the cities that listen most.
Why we collect it
We use this information to run the chat and song requests, to review DJ proposals and reply to you, and to understand our audience. We don't sell or rent your information, and we don't add you to marketing lists without your permission.
Where it's stored and who sees it
Chat messages, song requests and DJ proposals are stored with our database provider, Supabase. The site is hosted by Netlify, Inc. (United States). The audio stream runs on our own AzuraCast server. DJ proposals and listening data can only be seen by the My Dee Jay Radio team. On the site we only publish listening totals, such as the top New Zealand cities, never individual listeners.
Website analytics and third parties
We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site, for example how many people press play, send song requests or submit a proposal. It uses cookies and collects information such as your device, browser and approximate location, but not your name, email or what you write in the chat. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts. You can block cookies in your browser settings or use the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
How long we keep it
We keep DJ proposals for as long as needed to review them and, if your show goes ahead, for as long as you are on air with us. Proposals that don't lead to a show are deleted after 24 months. Chat messages and song requests are deleted after 24 months.
Your rights
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct or delete it. Email mydeejayradio@southmedia.co.nz and we'll respond within 20 working days. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
